Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Vision Statement

The Coronado Area Council is committed to supporting every pack, troop, crew and post in their efforts to teach character, leadership and citizenship to every youth available. To accomplish this, we will establish a committed volunteer lead team, supported by staff, who will provide an unparalleled experience for every Scout through dynamic programming that exceeds expectations.

Profile

For more than 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

While various activities and youth groups teach basic skills and promote teamwork, Scouting goes beyond that and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community.

Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals. It is communicated to them that those in the Scouting family care about what happens to them, regardless of whether a game is won or lost.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Scouting promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.

Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. ScoutingAmerica believes this and, through more than a century of experience, understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

The Coronado Area Council continues its proud heritage of serving community organizations across the 32 counties that comprise our service area in North-Central and Northwest Kansas. More than 1,500 youth participate in the Scouting and Exploring programs provided by nearly 1,000 dedicated volunteer leaders.

In 2024, the Coronado Area Council served over 650 youth in the Konza District, which includes Junction City and Fort Riley. ScoutingAmerica and the Coronado Area Council provided the youth of Kansas with the opportunities to try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical standards.  

Annual membership (calendar year) $85. That yearly fee covers the basic administrative costs for the scout, but the cost to the council per scout far surpasses the registration fee collected.

CAC conducts our annual Investment in Character and Leadership campaign, as well as fundraisers, fundraising events, grants, individual and corporate giving, and third-party events such as Grow Green Match Day to cover the cost of maintaining camps, insurance, administration, professional and support staff, events, and much more.
