Black History Trail-Geary County

Specific Need

Our financial needs are to continue creating and printing signs and to get them posted at each of the 13 historical sites we have identified.  Each celebration costs money as we like to provide a guest speaker and a reception.  We have unveiled 4 sites and our next one will be in October to highlight the Buffalo Soldier Monument, Pawnee Park and the USO.  It will be one of our biggest celebrations as many folks from around the state will be in attendance.  We have hopes to purchase a kiosk there to explain the Black History Trail of Geary County and highlight how the black soldiers lived in Junction City.

Mission

To provide opportunities and facilities to further interpretation of our local Kansas Black history and culture of our region of Kansas; address the public’s knowledge, education and awareness of Kansas Black history.
